디테일의 힘 - MBTI

MBTI를 십여년 전에 접했을 때에는 그저 신기하다는 느낌이었다. 학교는 적성검사의 날이었고, 아이들이 MBTI 테스트를 진행하는 동안, 나 또한 하나의 케이스가 되어 같이 테스트에 동참했다. 그리고 그때 상담사는 이것은 유료로 진행되는 것이며, 외부에 유출해서는 안된다고 했다.

나는 이것이 하나의 심리학의 정량화하는 방법이겠거니 생각했다. 문항들은 자세했고, 한 시간여동안 매달려야 했다. 마치 모의고사 답안지를 출제기관에 넘기듯, 그 테스트지를 취급하는 모습도 굉장히 비밀스러웠다.

그런데 중요한건 그때 결과값으로 나온 나의 타입이 전혀 기억이 안난다는 것이다. 다만 결과를 읽어내려가면서 굉장히 나의 상황과 일치하는데? 하면서 놀랬었다.

지금은 MBTI가 제법 넓게 상용화되고 심리테스트나 혈액형 인간학 정도의 영역으로 일상화된 느낌이다. 그리고 사람들은 자신의 타입을 다 외우고, 이해하고 있다. 자신을 이해하려는 당연한 결과값이다. 우리는 과거에 주역이나 사상의학을 통하여 자신을 이해하려고 하는 끊임없는 노력을 해왔다.

MBTI를 처음 접하고 십여년이 지나는 동안 이 열여섯 가지의 인간형마저도 자세한 느낌이 아닌 것 같다. 왜냐하면 많은 사람들이 갖고 있는 타입이 있다. (아직 그 타입의 영어 알파벳을 기억을 못한다. )그것에 대한 이해도 또한 높다. 보편적으로 적용되기에 자세한 느낌보다는 누구나 다 이해할만한 성향의 인간형인 것이다. 어째서 꽤 많은 사람들이 비슷한 타입을 가진 것일까.

이제는 32가지나 64가지, 그보다 더 자세한 인간형 타입이 나올 것이다. 이미 나온 디테일은 디테일하지 않다. 더욱 디테일해야 한다. 1인의 가치가 그 어느때보다 중요한 때이다. 결국 한 사람의 개성을 발휘해야 하는 시대이다. 그러니 나만의 디테일을 찾는 데에 더욱 열심이어야 한다.

When I came across MBTI more than a decade ago, I just felt amazing. It was the school aptitude test day, and while the students were conducting the MBTI test, I also became a case and joined the test together. And then the counselor said that this is a paid process and should not be leaked to the outside world.

I thought this would be a way of quantifying a psychology. The questions were detailed and had to hang for about an hour. As if handing over the mock test papers to the examination institution, the appearance of handling the test papers was also very secretive.

But the important thing is that I don't remember my type as the result at all. But as I read the results, it matches my situation very well I was surprised when I was doing it.

Now, MBTI is quite widely commercialized and seems to have become a common area of psychological tests and blood type anthropology. And people are memorizing and understanding their types. It's a natural result of trying to understand yourself. In the past, we have made constant efforts to understand ourselves through eight diagrams and four constitutional medicine.

More than a decade after encountering MBTI for the first time, even these sixteen human figures don't seem to feel detailed. Because there is a type that many people have. (I don't remember that type of English alphabet yet.) People's understanding of it is also high. Since it is applied universally, it is a human type that everyone can understand rather than a detailed feeling. How come quite a few people have similar types.

There will now be 32 or 64 more detailed humanoid types. The details that have already come out are not detailed. It should be more detailed. It's when the value of one person is more important than ever. In the end, it is an era in which a person's individuality must be exercised. So you should be more eager to find your own details.

사거리 단상A short thought about the intersection

어제 ‘사거리’라는 말을 학습하였다. 영어로는 ‘intersection’인데 이것만으로는 설명이 부족한 생각이 들었다. 왜냐하면 ‘사거리’는 ‘네 개의 거리’로 설명할 수 있기 때문이다.

Yesterday, we learned the word 'intersection'. It is 'intersection' in English, but I thought this alone was not enough to explain. This is because "intersection" can be explained as "four streets" in Korean.

위의 사진에서 보는 것 처럼 4 개의 거리를 ‘사거리’라고 칭한다. ‘사’는 숫자 4를 의미하고, ‘거리geori’는 영어로 street라 할 수 있다.

As shown in the picture above, the four streets are referred to as "intersections. 'Sa' means the number 4, and 'geori' can be called street in English.

그럼 ‘삼거리’가 있을까? 물론 있다.

Then is there "Samgeori"? Of course there is.

보통 ‘T’자 형태의 길을 ‘삼거리’라고 한다.

Usually, the T-shaped road is called Samgeori.

자, 그럼 다음의 거리는 뭐라고 부르면 좋을까?

What should we call the intersection that we can see in the next picture?

딩동댕! 그렇다. ‘오거리’라고 하면 된다. 숫자 5와 ‘거리’라는 말을 합하면 된다.

Correct! That's right. You can say “ogeori”. The number 5 and the word 'geori' can be combined.

한국에는 육거리도 있다. 그런데 현재는 그 이름만 남고 육거리는 사라진 것 같다. ‘육거리’라는 이름을 딴 재래시장이 청주에 있다.

There is also Yukgeori in Korea. But now, only its name remains, and Yukgeori seems to have disappeared. A traditional market named Yukgeori is located in Cheongju.
