AI has quietly infiltrated our daily lives. A current trend is for people to use AI to transform the photos on their phones into cartoon characters and then share them on social media.
AI가 어느새 우리 생활 안에 침투해 있다. 사람들은 자신의 휴대 전화 속에 있는 사진들을 AI를 통해 만화 캐릭터로 만들고 그것을 SNS에 올려서 서로 공유하는 것이 트렌드이다.
Writers—such as journalists—claim that they report only the facts. Yet somehow, the subtle presence of AI cannot be ignored. Newspaper articles these days often lack any human touch, any trace of the writer's unique perspective or style. They merely describe facts, and it is not uncommon to find glaring spelling mistakes. There is no real sense of responsibility for the articles. How is this any different from AI-generated writing? It’s all output without ownership.
글을 쓰는 자들은, 이를테면 기자들은 오로지 사실만을 전하는 사람들이라고 하지만, 어딘지 모르게 AI의 느낌을 지울 수 없다. 신문 기사의 글들은 글쓴이들의 관점이라든가 문장 스타일 등에서 인간의 체취라고는 전혀 느낄 수 없기 때문이다. 사실에 대한 기술만이 존재하고 어이없게도 맞춤법을 틀리는 경우도 허다하다. 기사에 대한 책임이 없다. AI가 쓴 것과 뭐가 다른가. 책임 없이 인출만 있는 존재.

People predict that many professions will disappear within the next decade, replaced by AI. Frequently mentioned examples include pharmacists, teachers, and translators. AI could automatically generate prescriptions based on a diagnosis. Instead of relying on teachers as conveyors of knowledge, students could learn systematically through AI apps. Hollywood movies could be translated into Korean with AI, allowing viewers to grasp the meaning without difficulty.
사람들은 예측한다. 어떠한 직업들은 향후 십 년 내에 없어질 것이라고. AI가 그 자리를 대체할 것이라고. 많이 이야기하는 것들이 약사, 교사, 번역가 등등이다. 진단 받은 병명에 대해 AI를 이용하면 처방전이 자동 생성될 것이다. 지식의 전달자인 교사 대신 당장 AI 앱을 이용하면 방대한 지식을 체계적으로 전달받고 학습할 수 있을 것이다. 할리우드의 영화들은 AI를 이용하여 한국어로 번역하면 충분히 그 뜻을 이해할 수 있을 것이다.
Yet a human being cannot be defined in a single phrase. If we reflect on this, we can understand the reason for the existence of so many professions that shaped daily life up until the 20th century. Most professions demand a sense of responsibility from the people who choose them as their life's work.
사람은 한마디 말로 정의할 수 없는 존재이다. 이말을 곱씹어본다면 직전인 20세기까지 사람들의 일상을 지배하던 여러 직업에 대한 존립 이유를 생각할 수 있을 것이다. 대개의 직업은 그것을 업으로 삼는 사람들의 책임을 요구한다.
AI learns on its own, but only because people input data into it. AI does not discern right from wrong; it builds its knowledge system from the information it receives and feeds it back to users. Even if incorrect data gets mixed in, no one bears responsibility.
AI는 스스로 학습한다. 그것은 사람들이 거기에 자료를 입력하기 때문이다. AI는 잘못된 데이터에 대해서 옳고 그름에 대한 판단을 하지 않는다. 사람들이 입력한 데이타를 통해 AI는 지식체계를 구축하여 그 정보를 사람들에게 다시 제공한다. 중간에 잘못된 정보가 휩쓸려 들어가도 누구의 책임도 아니다.
Therefore, AI must remain strictly a tool. People must constantly learn and remain vigilant in order to make sound judgments. And the joy of life should be sought not in the world of AI, but in the human world — in the blooming and falling of flowers, the refreshing spray of fountains, and the laughter of loved ones. That is where true living must happen.
그렇다면 AI는 정말이지 도구로만 존재해야 하는 것이다. 사람들은 자신의 올바른 판단을 위해 항상 학습하고 경계해야 한다. 그리고 재미는 AI 세상 속이 아닌 인간 세상 속에서 찾으면 된다. 당장은 꽃이 피고 지는 것에, 쏟아지는 분수의 청량함에, 사랑하는 사람들의 웃음 속에서 사는 재미를 찾으면 된다. 그래야만 된다.
